Hi All,

I'm working on the assumption Fire safety signs should be pe photo lumincescent. But is this a 'must do' or recommended?

Also where is it referenced or detailed?

They do not have to be but they are handy if emergency lighting is not installed.

There is no legal requirement to have glow in the dark sign, but they are pretty and management in my experience like them, I suppose it shows what their bish-bosh is being spent on.

I have met two salemen pushing those glow in the dark signs and making claims that they are a legal requirement. They got escorted to the front door and asked to leave.

And finally, I know of one drug taking, guest of HM Prison service who swears by them. He stated that they were great for cutting up his drugs on them during lights out in his cell.

Hi All,

Hope you can help.

I was wanting clarification on a point of Fire Extinguisher signage, is it a legal requirement to have the signage at the point of installation of a fire extinguisher outlining the uses and non-uses of that paticular type of extinguisher. The type of sign that has the Classes of fire on it, eg A, B, C etc and also has the 'probited' uses on it also?

No it is not a legal requirement despite what the FFE suppliers tell you!

It's another 'where necessary' bit of the RRO. So if the extinguisher is in a box, behind a curtain or in anyway visually obstructed - then a sign is required.

However, if staff/punter can't see a blooming great big red extinguisher hanging on a white wall in an empty corridor - a small sign ain't going to help!
