Looking for good ideas in getting the work force engaged in taking part in the safety rep recruitment and election process for a non unionised business.

I need to recruit nominations and get employees to vote. How can I wow them into action? I am putting together a newsletter to kick off the nomination/recruitment process and any ideas on how to grab peoples attention would be welcome. I'm thniking of a poster campaign to back up newsletter but feel the Kitchener "we want you" type of approach is out dated!

The environment is engineering service with a manly male workforce.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is it still PC to say "manly male"? ;-)

Hi Linda

I have just started the ball rolling myself on appointing three ‘Representatives of Employee Safety’ under the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996;

I dont know the size of your company bu we have just under 70 employees (10 office the remainder on the road/site work.

I spoke to people to get the buy in about creating a "positive H&S culture" and the benefits that brings etc.

I then made a voting form and sent that to all employees, made a ballot box, and then waited for the voting to start?

Afterwards I then counted votes, contacted the successful ones and the not so successfull ones, they are now booked on the one day working safely IOSH course.

In the mean time I am writing a policy/procedure for the reps and making a reps form they can use. I am going to introduce them into the quarterly management meeting in 2013. If you require any more info PM me.

Regards Shaun
