What are people thoughts re H&S v CRB as new areas in CRB are saying that certain things do not need to be undertaken but by undertaking a risk assessment this CRB statement is shown to be less than satisfactory - the argument is between those who know only CRB and those who know both CRB and H&S

has anybody undertaken either a CRB RA or a security RA or a combined RA - I have; I am just looking to see what others have done

Bob,
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you referring to Criminal Record Bureau checks for those who may be employed working with children and vulnerable adults? I have been CRB'd as part of the process of being a school Governor at a school that became an academy - it was a requirement of the conversion. To me the CRB is purely a one off pre-employment check to satisfy the employer that they are not taking on anyone with a criminal history relating to their new employment (And it is as valid as an MOT in as much as it is only accurate on the day) So it is part of the risk management process but only for the very limited number of roles as specified. Interestingly, I've just googled CRB and now realise that there are a lot of commercial operators out there offering CRB checks as part of their offer so may be there are some out there looking for a monetary incentive etc and over complicating the process.

thanks for your thoughts and yep that is an area

the point being is that 'experts' that I have come across may know of the CRB standards/parameters but know nothing about H&S and as CRB is changing and getting easier [easier: for the use of a word[ there has not been any consideration for the risk factors concerned as can be identified via H&S law and such experts are saying one thing which is incorrect and will not even consider H&S and people are getting confused as two messages are being given out

I know how to tackle such areas I was just looking to find out what others were thinking
Thanks again

Bob
I do voluntary work for the NHS and work in the remote medic area on occasion and require CRB checks on a regular basis for both activities in the UK.

The view given by most of the professionals in the area is that a CRB only means if you are that way inclined you just haven't been caught yet...

The risk assessment is undertaken when problems have been identified and come under the children's act in the main and (without going into the detail) there are various risk levels considered within those reports. However this is only when highlighted....

This is perhaps why there is a 'perception' that there are no risk assessment is carried out as referred to in the act...

Bob,

worked in the care sector many years ago and we did carryout R/A's but this in the main was looking at the suitability of the young people travelling one on one with an adult due to behaviour etc. I was also involved in junior football and was the welfare officer we did carry out a R/A and one area was that we did not allow an adult to take a child who was not hishers unless we had recieved permission from parents, I was surprised at how many parents argued over this point, we had teams in under 7's and under 9's.
I am also a referee and although I have had a CRB there are no R/A's completed although I gather this is because you are standing in the middle of a pitch with 22 players and parents watching your every move.
