I am looking for any material, risk assessment, research info etc, with regards to handling used Mattresses (or other soft furniture).

I am interested in the potential health risks (not manual handling) from any contaminants - bed bugs, bodily fluid etc.

All information gratefully received.

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately it is unlikely that you will be able to determine whether a used mattress is contaminated with any mites etc without carrying out a detailed inspection. I would recommend that used mattresses are covered in shrink wrap (or something similar) before they are handled. The handlers should also wear suitable skin protection (disposable gloves) to prevent contact with the mattress.

Regards

Manny
