Hi this one is new to me. Can anyone provide or point me in the direction of where to find info on guidence for disposal of animal waste including excrement. I have found that there are different classes of animal waste and by products i.e class 1 - 3. but want to know if theres a requirement for licensed disposal more so with regards to pet shops which house a variety of animals.

http://www.environment-a.../topics/waste/32140.aspx

Animal faeces can be either 02 01 06, 18 02 02*, 18 02 03, 20 02 01.

I would use code 02 01 06.

Crack on.

Can anyone help!!!!!!

The two statements are taken from the environment list but one is classed as hazardous and the other is not but both consist of the same contents.

How do you decide what list of waste code you go with?

18 02 02* - wastes whose collection and disposal is subject to special requirements in order
to prevent infection
Clinical waste, Infected animal parts, Animal bedding - soiled, Animal carcasses,
Animal faeces, Animal tissue - infectious, Carcasses, Needles (clinical), Excrement
- animal, Manure - animal, Swabs - soiled, Healthcare risk waste, Paper towels
(used), Pa

02 01 06 – animal faeces, urine and manure (including spoiled straw), effluent, collected
separately and treated off-site
Food washing waste, Animal bedding - soiled, Animal faeces, Excrement - animal,
Manure - animal, Straw

Healthy stock vs unhealthy, including exotics and other imported animals in quarantine where the risk of transmission of infection cannot reasonably excluded.

Hello

sorry for late post, just come across this...

The EWC codes are selected based on the industry the waste arises from, so if you are a high street pet shop you would need the 20 02 code, as mentioned bythe posters above, as this best fits the business description. If your pet shop incorporates a vets practice, then that part of the business would need to use the 18 02 code, as that relates to animal healthcare etc. The 02 code is specific to agriculture, hunting, fishing & food processing etc, so does not seem to apply to pet shops.

Hope that helps to clarify things. Check also with whoever you use to collect the wastes, as certain codes may not be permitted under the licence requirements of the proposed receiving sites.
