Hi,

We need to have a couple of short (6-8 rung) ladders made for access to a specific machine point. We've received two quotes. One stats manufactured according to ISO 14122 at a price of £2000 each whilst the other makes no such claim but is priced at £300 each.

Does it need to be 14122 compliant and if so, how do they justify a near x7 multiplication of the cost of production when both manufacturers came in and looked at what we were trying to achieve?

ISO 14122 is the relevant standard. Is there a design or specification all bidders are pricing against, or are you simply hoping for the best with that lower quote? £2K does seem a bit steep mind.........
Compliance with the ISO Standard also relates to the finished installation and is therefore of relevance to the commissioning employer and PUWER.

The inflated price for the one manufactured to ISO 14122 Standard will probably be to coer the costs of the testing house etc to ensure it meets the necessary stipulations. I've not been involved with ladders but know how expensive it can be to get something as simple as a refelective traffic sign tested. It wouldn't be far off £2k
