Hi Hopefully someone can offer advice or help and point me in the right direction. My knowledge on DSV's are zero. I was asked the following.......... An open ended question; what licenses and permits and certification are required for the work to be carried out. so I have taken the obvious; The contractors on the DSV will supply most of the inforamtion as an outsider -Rigging is out the question as certs for rigging is a legal requirement -There are PTW (work at height, Hot work) e.t.c. -Competent/qualified person on board etc

what do you mean by the statement "for the work to be carried out" as if you are undertaking work on the fabric of the DSV in a work shop it is completely different to work being carried out via the DSV

The answer very much depends on the context of the question. My role here is partly contractor compliance and that involves Survey and DSV's There is a whole host of certification you should be looking for. I try to divide it into 3 areas The vessel - The Dive System - The project All of which have different requirments and different certifying bodies. Thoughts in no particular order Vessel you should be looking at IMO and flag state compliance, IMCA guidance also good Diving a safe diving system certification usually issued by the likes of DNV but full explanation is in the IMCA guidance (all free on the web) Project, I look for the usual HSE Plans and HSE MS (also covered under IMO Ships safety MS cert) Hope this helps Rgs

Eck, All the major players (Subsea 7, Technip, Bibby, ISS, etc.) have standard 'vessel assurance' packs that cover all the relevant certification. It covers all the stuff you will be interested in (dive system, crane/wire ropes, DP, etc. etc.). Just pick up the phone to the HSE contact at the relevant contractor and ask them to send the vessel assurance material for the particular vessel(s) that you will be using. Regards, Ross

I echo Bob's question in the previous post. However to add to the 'pot', if it is the operation of the DSV, then different legislation comes into effect, mostly under the Merchant Shipping Act - on board ship, HASAWA, and associated legislation is not applicable. This probably does not give the answer you are looking for, but if you can give more details about the work, it will be possible to give clearer advice.
