We are introducing evac slides into our workplace and I have suggested we give all operators appropriate moving and handling training of people to aid persons on to the slides. I am being met with some resistance on this and just familiarisation training is being given to users. I don't think this is enough and I have refused to be an evac slide operator because I do not thing the training is adequate. I would welcome your comments and thoughts. Many Thanks

Can you give a bit more information; Where are the slides being used (type of workplace - office / care home / school / manufacturing plant etc?). Who will be using the slides (male / female / children / elderly / disabled / where English not the first language etc?) When will the be used? (shift workers perhaps?). How will they be used? (number of evac slide operators per slide? what happens if staff on holiday etc?) What has the company installing the equipment suggested? This should help to determine whether further training is required and what level..

Melrose is correct in asking for more information. However, in my industry (marine) we use slides a lot. All people in charge of, or assisting with, the evacuation are trained. The passengers are clearly not, but there are sufficient trained personnel to ensure their safety.

Hi this is in a building with 4 floors used as offices. Did the training include moving and handling of people or just familiarisation training? Many Thanks

Hi...I still think that more information is needed as I would not think of evacslides as a first option in offices....why are you using them in particular?

Hi, As it is inside a building I presume you refer to Evac Chair as opposed to Evac Slide. Contact Evac Chair and they will provide you with all the info you need. Note: I have no affiliation with Evac and other manufacturers/suppliers are available. Nick
