Hi. What kind of qualification makes me qualified to work in wind farm as a Occupational Health and safety Officer? Or is there any recognised qualification for this and where?
Regards

What's so unique about windfarms as to warrant special training?

What risks/hazards aren't covered by existing h&s legislation and associated ACOPs/good practice?

We sub contract to one of the large wind farm companies and have to comply with their H and S, which is very strict. They follow legislation to the letter and then Gold plate it to 'Wind farm standards'. You have to ask at what level you want to operate within the H and S system on the farm, site based or more office based and therefore more Strategic. The site based guys tend to (in my findings) have a good general understanding of H and S but with a great practical knowledge of Windframs/ Heavy construction. The H and S Qualification is almost secondary to the practical experiences.

As blackhut has said, it's more about experience than qualifications.

Construction, offshore or HV experience is usually the norm. Have a look on a few employment websites and you will get a general idea of what wind farm companies are looking for.

Like most jobs, there is no course you can take that will give you a golden ticket.
