I am a H&S advisor currently in the process of setting KPIs to be incorporated into our overall H&S plan for the forthcoming year. The organisation has around 1000 employees based in offices across Scotland and overseas. The work undertaken by staff is generally low risk with driving for work being the activity that presents the highest risk of serious injury
KPIs are not a subject I am familiar with and would very much appreciate any help in identifying the subjects, issues, targets etc that may be included so that these can be established. If there are profomas or examples for these that would help immensely
Thanks

KPIs can be a useful management measuring tool. But beware, once you let the gene out of the bottle, there's no getting him back in. If you are not careful, he gets fatter and fatter and you spend increasing amounts of time feeding & looking after him to the detriment of you day job. Eventually, the gene takes over and you become his slave
When working for a particular large public authority fire brigade, my line manager was chasing me for late KPI returns. I said I was short staffed and really couldn't perform the functions associated with the KPIs (mainly training and incident readiness functions) and sarcastically asked him would he prefer me to prepare the KPI returns or do the actual work as I can't do both? He said, he'd prefer the paperwork (ie commit fraud). He was not joking!
So tread carefully. When used sparingly, KPIs give good management data which help target resources and monitor performance. But when they are allowed to run riot, they can cause more harm than good

Most common:
Accidents Near Misses RIDDOR's / LTA's Training (percentage of staff trained etc) Audit Scores
If looking at driving then you could consider RTI's etc
If you can try and look at positive one's and fight your corner for realistic rates for your RIDDOR's, LTA's etc.
