Good afternoon,

A quick question for the crane experts out there...

Is there any reason why an Appointed Person cannot supervise a crane lift for which they have developed the lift plan?

if there is a reason why they can't, where is it documented.

I have always been of the opinion that an Appointed Person is able to supervise a lift as they have put the SSOW work together

Regards, Gary

In short the answer to your question is no, in many ways it is better as they are the more informed /qualified / experienced person.

Within my company this would be regularly the case.

Regards

Jon

No reason at all > That is his job unless he appoints a crane supervisor to assume the duties as appointed person

Gary BS7121 Part 1 gives you it clearly . Yes they can. it is also briefly mentioned in LOLER Regulation 8. It is also in the CPA best practice guide which gives a more comprehensive run down of duties.

Search CPA and look for Best Practice Guides.
