Does anyone have any safety information to aide my risk assessment process regarding the use of stand pipes on public highways please. It is to be used for mixing cement and washing down pavements. The stand pipe will be connected to fill containers then disconnected once task is complete.

work through your risk assessment in the same way that you tackle other work RA's remembering to include the public and you should have no problem and watch out re your term 'washing down pavements' as we should be ensuring that the minimal of waste is washed into an open drain and the EA are keen that we do not pour cement waste away in such a way and don't forget that the Water people will need to be contacted re your use of standpipes as there is a charge for the use of standpipes!

As suggested you will need a licence from the water authority and as far as your RA is concerned you need to take into account the need to protect against contaminating the mains water supply or you could potentially end up with a very big clean up bill!
