Help,
Can someone please clarify what inspections / checks need to be completed for hand pump/pallet trucks.
My understanding was a LOLER check is required (thorough examination) & a service to cover PUWER.
Obviously we do pre-use checks, defect reporting.
clarification would be excellent.

Pallet trucks are not normally considered as lifting equipment so LOLER doesn't apply.

Just to back up what Norfolkboy has said and from the HSE website for what does not fall under LOLER '...simple pallet trucks (that only raise the load just clear of the ground so it can be moved'
100% PUWER

Arron,
To further clarify both LOLER and PUWER are statutory inspections, they just look at different things (think MOT for your car).
In addition to either (or being pedantic possibly both) you may wish to service the equipment. Servicing is not the same as a PUWER inspection.
FYI the benchmark for identify if LOLER applies is contained in the LOLER ACOP (http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l113.pdf) (page 8 provided the guidance at para 32). LOLER is not applicable if the main function of equipment is not to lift (i.e. the pallet trucks main function is to move loads from 1 place to another, the lifting operation facilitates the movement but is not the primary purpose).
