Afternoon colleagues, Despite being a member of a Technical Indexes service and having a network within the Health Care sector, I am struggling to locate a copy of the draft revision of the Health Technical Memorandum, HTM 04-01 for water safety within hospitals. I hear rumours that it is currently out for consultation but have yet to meet anyone who has seen it! Does anyone have a copy willing to share (if possible) or does anyone have information contained within it with regard especially to flexible hoses within immuno-suppressed areas? Reason I ask, is it is my understanding that the current DoH alert requires assessment of risk where flexi hoses are fitted with potential removal/replacement as a result. I hear the drafted HTM revision calls for a blanket removal regardless of the risk. Will be interesting to see if anyone has anything further to add.

Hi WWB can't find any new draft of 04-01 or reference to it other than verbal. Certainly the Responsible Person in the Estates at the Trust where I am has 'taken a position' in that she has decided that all such flexible hoses are being replaced as this is the likely requirement of the update anyway. Only thing that I can find which does seem a little newer is the following: http://www.spaceforhealt...rformance-requirements-2 If you look at the penultimate bulletpoint it mentions the linings but that is the only reference I can find. If you have not done so already, why not contact spaceforhealth directly on their webpage? I did that on Thursday and they got back to me via e-mail within the hour, and they may know more about the HTM update. Passwords are no longer required as anyone can now go in and see docs etc., if others were not aware. all the best Martin

I have heard there is a review/update due to be published in March 2013 - but that it is particularly about pseudomonas aeroginosa but similarly can't find anything in DRAFT form anywhere.

Thanks for the response folks. Yes, it was my understanding too that the review was to consider the presence of pseudomonas and not legionella related; noting of course that bio film is bio film! I thought that is intended to provide guidance on management systems where the existing legionella controls do not adequately cover pseudomonas. I like the principal that flexi hose removal is risk assessment based and may not be required where vulnerable groups do not come into contact with the water provided through them. Blanket removal within a large and complex hospital is going to be expensive and tricky to manage, I hope that we are not forced down this route. Thanks again.
