Hi all, I know this is going to be a longshot and touchy area to some, but I am looking for some advice and guidance with regards to average pay within health and safety sector if possible. I have read the 2009 IOSH Pay report and the HSW 2010, 2011 and 2012 pay surveys, but I’m struggling to find a comparator for an organisation with 100 employees. If somebody could give an indication of average pay within the following sector that would be fantastic, even if it’s via private mail would be a great help. Health, Safety and Environmental Manager for two sites (GradIOSH NEBOSH Dip) Responsible for the Health, Safety and Environmental Technician/Trainer – x1 Budgetary responsibility 100 employees in organisation Thanks in advanced Jon

Defo a long shot :) What are the sites doing and where are they? Top Tier CoMAH where you also require a speciality in chemical engineering will pay a lot more than two offices? London will pay more than Devon :( Numbers are always a touchy area - I hate hearing how much some of the safety managers I teach / advise get paid! I also know I could at least double my salary tomorrow if I went back to the chemical industry... but some things are worth more than money!

Hi Teh Boy, Thought it was going to be....always worth a punt though :) One site involves – highways, work at height, construction, maintenance and utilities. The other involves – ship construction, engineering and maintenance, highways and utilities. Its very clear that the midlands and central areas will pay a fair bit more :( Thanks Jon

Can you simply not conduct a vacancy search with relevant skill base required Then see what is being offered in the way of salaries Very difficult as pointed out tby teh_boy when no indication of sites etc. What environmental qualiifcations or is it just a title ?

Hi Alan, I hold NEBOSH enviro cert and currently working towards the enviro diploma. I have done just that, but as the majority of jobs were linked with recruitment agencies I thought I’d test the water with persons actually in jobs as things can be negotiated within interview stages. Thanks for the response. Jon

On the issue of pay what is the day rate for a second party audit to 18001 or HSG 65. For a 1 person.

Jon, I'm guessing it varies significantly dependant on your area of expertise, but I work for a large FM provider on a global bank contract, which is self delivery and the average salary for colleagues at your level of academic, albeit I don't know how much experience you have within your industry, is around 40k. Hope this helps a little, but on reading varies subscriptions in our industry, some salaries are pretty poor. Regards, Dom
