I understand there are changes to BS5266 which includes (amongst other things) the need to have at least 1lux lighting along the centre line of each and every escape route. I know BS's are not law or retrospective but are we now really expected to upgrade all our existing emergency lighting or can we/should we just apply it to new installations? I am interested in how others have approached the issue and how you have dealt with companies who are using the change as a marketing tool.

The requirement is not retrospective but should be used for new installations and as a base to asses esisting standards. You don't have upgrade your existing lighting but you can improve or enhance it.

You might want to consider wayfinding measures as a supplement which work great.
