Defibrillator problems

What are the latest opinions / thoughts with regards to the use/need etc. of defibrillators noting the manufacturers recalls because of malfunction etc. and possible reliance on such kit in preference to the use of the first aider?

Hi Bob,

It suppose it depends on which manufacturers AED you have on your site.
the model we use has been subject to no recalls, and I have used the same model for a number of years as a frontline Ambulance service resource, with no issues. Only changing pads after each use.

They will never be used in preference to a first aider, as you still need someone to check the chest for piercings, patches and pacemakers; dry the chest and apply the pads, carry out the safety checks and press the button.

I would agree with Phil.

It is important to do the research on which is the best and most reliable for the operation in question....

I think you have a problem here.
The defibrillator will be defibrillating a brain-damaged person without someone performing chest compressions prior to the God-Machine arriving.
One minute.
Can you get it there in that time ?
