Could any one point me in the right direction as to where I could find a guidance document on safety measures to be adopted when abseiling. Thank you in advance

As above, via IRATA whose members comply with their own code of practice; also BS 7985. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me. (IRATA level 3, although rarely on the ropes these days!)

We used to use abseiling for most of our window cleaning. However we did stipulate that at least 2 of those carrying out the work must be rescue trained to IRATA standards. This was set out in the contract with the option to terminate if it was not complied with. It was one strike and you are out Regular checks were carried out to ensure this happened
