Do you need any specific qualifications to sample asbestos materials? This is not surveying which I know requires qualifications but purely the action of taking a sample of a material and sending it off to a UKAS lab for analysis.

The working with asbestos training for working with non-licensed asbestos will "teach you the skills" for drilling holes into asbestos materials which could include taking samples. I would not use someone (contractor or employee) to take samples who has not competed the P402.

Like all asbestos questions, it depends what you're talking about. Picking up a piece of asbestos cement or floor tile to pop in a bag for analysis? Carry on. Sampling limpet, pipe insulation or AIB? Definitely need some form of training, experience & equipment. If in doubt get a UKAS lab to take the sample for you.
