Afternoon all,

Could anybody point me in the direction of some good deals on the following insurances for a health and safety consultant?

Employers liability compulsory insurance
Public Liability Insurance
Professional indemnity Insurance

Kind Regards,

If you're not employing anybody, you don't need Employers liability insurance.

There are good deals to be had on here. Just check under myIOSH, then from there follow the links for insurance. You also get instant quotes, which is helpful.

IOSH do a good deal for members. The link is on this site some where. Maybe under members or MyIOSH. It will be hard to beat the quotes you get through them.

I have just renewed mine with Hiscox & the rates are competitive.

There are several reasons why I didn't opt for the one on this site; firstly, its predominantly an on-line service, but I like to be able to talk to a human being, & secondly, they will arrange one-off premiums for specific work which might be outside the scope of the original Policy.

As already pointed out, if you have no employees you do not legally need EL Insurance, however, there is one caveat to this & that is that some clients insist that you have it as it's in their procurement specifications, i.e. no EL, no tick in the box!

The usual disclaimer is that I have no links with any Insurance companies, my present Policy just suits my needs.

And check you are covered for the work you will be doing - generally asbestos demolition scaffold confined spaces docks tunnels steeplejacks nuclear chemical rail and all other fun things give underwriters cold sweats and if you plan to advise anyone who does that or carry out site inspections in those sectors then expect to pay more and not to use the IOSH one - Hiscox have always been good and having put my PI on notice on a number of occasions - I used to run an asbestos consultancy - they are generally very supportive wheres some of the others are not - its a bit like car insurance - you pays your money........
