Hi all I'm looking at the possibility of training people to cover our pressure systems compliance in-house. we have many skilled mechanical engineers here but with only operational knowledge of pressure systems. Can anyone suggest a good route or courses to begin/help gain the necessary competence?

Pete You don't say whether your systems are currently subject to a Written Scheme? Take a look at; http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg178.pdf and, http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l122.pdf Regards.

Are your guys going to be writing Written Schemes of Examination? In which case they are probably not independent enough. What is the volume/pressure of your system? Major or Minor? Probably looking at your guys to be Incorporated Engineers (I Eng) as a minimum for Minor systems roughly a degree in a suitable engineering topic. Chartered Engineers for Major systems L122 is quite specific in the required educational requirements.

Thanks for the help guys! Hanev't seen that ACOP before. We have what is classed as a minor pressure system and engineers holding degrees here so some suitable pressure systems training and IEng status should cover us.

There are industry norms for the frequency and scope of such examinations, which are dependent on the kind of system. Make sure your insurer is happy with your arrangements. Note that there are some Statutory obligations here.
