Hi , I have a member of staff who has a valid certificate that states that she is qualified "to instruct and assess HSE approved first aid at work courses". Do any of you guys use a internal trainer? and does anyone see any reason why we cannot use her to carry out some of our first aid training? I am aware of the consultation document looking at first aid training ..but not sure if it covers this area.
Thanks

Confined,
I’m an internal trainer for HSE courses in my company.
In my case I went to an accredited HSE training provider. We went through a number of training related qualifications. We now deliver HSE training within our own company using the training providers materials.

I am aware that a number of Universities use their own staff to provide first aid training,
and in some cases offer this training to other organisations.

The site that I work on (3000 plus personnel) has had six of our firemen trained to be qualified first aid instructors. This gives us the flexibility to train our own first aiders when we want and there is a large financial saving. We need a large number of first aiders as the site is 24/7 and is an airfield environment, therefore this covers all of our requirements. You will need to assess if there is any financial benefit of going down this route.
