Is Safety software worth the money?

we are looking at putting in a system from Health+ Safety, has any one used it?

does anyone use another system that they would recommend (or say stay clear of)

one thing that is make us uneasy is the large ongoing licence fees
especially as we are finding it difficult to justify on cost saving grounds

anyone else had any experiences please

Just like a high-powered (or other) well-designed car, effectiveness of health and safety software depends on the user(s) and conditions of use more than on the technology .

If you wish to justify an investment on cost saving grounds, from experience I recommend using the quality management systems explained in the guidance of Howard Gitlow and David Levine and adapting them to the specific needs of your company using Minitab v 16 and/or Ms Excel.

Instead of paying for 'large ongoing licence fees' for products over which you have very limited control, your company's money is invested in the expertise and knowhow you develop and customise (and eventually either take home or to your grave or the incinerator).

From experience I'd say no.

You are better off with a wizz kid who is good with Excell etc

I'll get my hand slapped if I mention the snake oil salesmen who sold us the millstone we are saddled with. But I've no reason to suspect they are all as bad as one another.

I think this depends on what you need, where your risks are, size and complexity of the organisation. Having just gone through a procurement process we have decided Health + Safety was the best for us, but we needed a whole range of abilities of the system such as auditing, accident management, KPI reporting etc. We couldn't do this easily and effectively for all the areas that we needed using spreadsheets etc.

It may be worth doing a forum search as software advice comes up regularly.

I hope this helps

I have been looking at this for 2 years and a wide range of options. We decided to built a ms access database but in all honestly our requirements are now out growing excel & access systems and the admin of these are overbearing now. I two have been trailing and extensively reviewing software systems and health + safety appears by far the most cost effective option on the market. I'm hoping to go with it in near future but always a bit nervous without knowing how current users find the system in practice. I believe the software systems are vital part of progressing safety mgt and giving ownership to our mgt teams. It allows people access to information, ability to view and manage their live data and also a central location for H&S MS

I too have spent a significant amount of time on this.

Have a look at Papaya, www.papayauk.com

No I don't work for them. No i'm not on commission.

Good system and the best in terms of value for money I have seen, plus their support and back up with test systems, trial periods and training is as good as any
