can anyone point me to the direction of case law with regards to falls from height, I am looking for ideally scaffolding, prison sentances, substantial fines etc, the worse the better. I have to give a presentation to the board next week and I need the contents to be as cutting as possible. A wake up call!!

I suggest searching on the enforcement database on the HSE website.

Another place to look is the archive of the "In Court" section of SHP Online. Falls from height usually feature in that section.

To add to Kate's suggestion: Look at HSE Press Releases - these will contain some greater description of circumstances than the enforcement database.

To cover off the other, non-criminal aspect looking at some of the (claimant's) solicitors webpages will provide info on levle of damages to injured employees. Whilst not paid out of company coffers such claims will impact on premium, may affect abiltiy to secure insurance etc.

This case is a good example that a fall, even from the first level of scaffolding can cause significant cost in both financial and human terms

Alison Wellens at the HSE was head of the Shattered Lives campaign which was all about work at height.
It could be a good thing to contact her.
