Well the factory closes today, a loss of 165 Manufacturing jobs, here in Wales, I have been asked to stay on for 3 weeks to decommission the site, to supervise the contractors taking out the machinery, and hand over the C of C. and do the RAMS. I have applied to the agencies but with no luck as yet, will be looking at working away, as I don't think there will be any option, I have a job interview in Swansea on the 10th June, will have to wait and see what happens

Sorry to hear this Terry
At least you have a little more breathing space for your job hunt

I assume you are "talking" to the other 2 welsh lads who have been posting on here about their (ultimately successful) job hunts.

Good luck Terry

I have seen three jobs advertised in Bristol within the last month. Not sure if you plan on travelling that far though.

Regards

Stuart

Terry I started work about 3 weeks ago. The job I applied for was as a co ordinator in Bristol. However I evidently did ok at interview as they offered me a SHEQ Manager position and said I could be based at their Newport site, so only 10 miles and not 30+.

So applying for some jobs a bit further away may not necessarily mean staying away.

If I see / hear of anything in South Wales I will let you know. There were two jobs in H&S in Newport Council recently, but I think they have gone. I set up each of the council web sites in my favorites in Internet explorer and also Civil Service. I've posted before on my view of the government web site, but you have to make your own mind up (none of the words I would want to use,are allowed on this site, good job it only cost 17 million).

All the best with your search.

Chris

Chris42 thanks, I live in Pembrokeshire, so I will have to travel, even though I have oil refineries on my doorstep

Good luck in your search Terry; it is a frightening time being out of of work and i sincerely hope you find something soon.
I went for many many interviews which was very demoralising to start with - being rejected all the time - but in the end I managed to secure three written offers late last year. To keep the wolves from the door I took an interim role that meant travelling 97 miles each way on and on the M6 in the Midlands which meant hitting the road at 05.15 in the morning.
I dont want to tempt fate etc but there does seem to me to be the green shoots of a recovery in many ways here - houses that have been for sale for many many months have sold, I am still being approached for jobs.
Have a read here if you want a week by week account of what I got up to; feel free to PM if you want an ear to bend.
