We have several surveyors who visit homes, go into loft spaces in houses. Basically a sales man. They are self employed, would they covered by our own PL/EL insurances ? My initial thought is they would require there own Thanks

Just to add they go into houses to sell the product and then take measurements etc. They would go into the customers loft space to provide measures and drawings for our install teams

If you provide their work, you control much of what they do, how they do it, when and where, then they should be covered by your EL insurance. If they are doing it in your name then you should be making sure their potential for negligence is covered by your PL insurance. They have no need of their own EL cover but may choose to buy sickness etc cover for themselves. They may also choose to buy PL/PI cover to protect themselves from claims.

I'm with David on this. In the event of an accident quite likely that you would be regarded as their "employer" - that is having responsibility for directing their work etc. Thus you need to take out both Employers' and Public Liability insurance. And you need to provide trainging etc AND equipment. How are they accessing these loft spaces? Using the householder's ladder? What if there isn't a fitted loft ladder? Insurer's records contain many accidents from getting into and descending from loft spaces - and a fall from that height is enough to result (in some cases) in life changing injuries... e.g. paraplegia.
