Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is any, or where I can find any guidance on the maintenance requirements for external metal fire escapes. It used to be in the old fire precautions act, but can't find any guidance anywhere? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers HB

We have just had our external metal fire escape checked and the remedial work done. I had seen some guidance say every 3 yrs and other guidance state every 5 yr. The Fire Officer who inspected later said every 5 yrs.

Must depend on age, condition and exposure. Thus a Victorian iron structure in a seaside town may need much more attention than a modern set of galvanised steps in an inland location. As usual, it's probably down to informed opinion!
