Hello all,
I have just written the Fire safety policy for the company and will be using it as part of our overall fire management.
I'm fairly confident that it is suitable and sufficient, what I'm not certain about is whether it requires the signature and date from the MD just as the H&S policy does?
Can anybody shed some light on this for me please?
Thanks in advance.

Just a thought
why not include this subject into your H&S policy? I find having numerous policies for this and that messy and very much a gov thing whereas one policy can cover all areas

I agree with Bob.
I have always included the FS policy in the H&S Policy, that way everything is together in one large file with the MD's signature at the front.

Another one in agreement here. If we're setting out how we will keep our employees (and others) healthy and safe that will naturally and legitimately include fire too.

That's a fair point, The H&S policy is finished and forms part of the H&S management plan, so although possible, it would be a bit of a nuisance to have re-write the document. When it is up for renewal I will then combine the two documents and have one overall policy.
I have inherited this position and I am finding that there are lot's of bit's and pieces and that aren't orthodox and will require some work.
All good fun, I will get it signed and dated and then amalgamate the whole lot in about 6 months time.
Thanks guys

All policies in my organisation have a date of pubishing they also have a control sheet with the date of review/revision. They are not individually signed by the CEO but are all ratified by the H&S Committee and this is shown in the minutes of the meetings. Only the policy and Policy statement are signed and dated by the CEO as in this he has delegated authority to the H&S Committee.

Hi Martin,
I'm afraid that it is just I that is responsible for all matters regarding to health and safety. We aren't a massive company so I guess it doesn't warrant a committee just yet. Not long given our current expansion though.
Thanks for the input though, much appreciated.

But you do know there is a legal obligation to consult the workforce on health and safety matters?

Yes, and we do. We call a meeting for all staff twice monthly where we announce any changes and then its an open forum for people to make suggestions etc. We also have a hazard reporting scheme which allows the more timid to make suggestions anonymously on the back of the same card.
Thanks for checking though :-)
