AllanFS,
It might be worth your while to check the latest advice given by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/congo.

Having read the comments then, speaking personally, I'd think twice about taking up a post in the Congo, especially if the site was in a remote area (which is where I assume they tend to keep the mining operations!)

Hope this helps :0)

I've just tried the link and it won't work!

I suggest you use www.gov.uk and then search for "Congo"

There was an errant full stop on the end of the link. This one should work fine.

Hello All. Just Checked the Foreign Office Website.
It does not look good as it has advised not to Travel to DRC - Democratic Republic of Congo. Oh Dear.

I have worked in the Congo no problems, very nice people, food was amazing and environment. I think I stayed at the hotel Victory Palace, but was 6-7 years ago now.

Make sure you know whether is it the Congo or the Democratic republic of congo you are heading to. VERY different places indeed.

If the Congo and not DRC I believe I flew in to Bazzaville Air fronace from Amsterdam, and then travelled via car to Point Noir on the coast.

Make sure in advance your hotel has a back up generator, not only to keep your water cool, but if your eating there, you want to know that they can keep your food fresh!

There are two contries call the Congo. There is the Democratic Repulic of Congo which is best avoided and the Republic of Congo.

I've worked in the Republic of Congo which was fine. I concur with everything descarte8 has said above
