Most forum users who start threads or respond to them evidently live and work in the UK. However, though there have been postings from users in the Middle East and in the Caribbean I cannot readily remember any from elsewhere in the world. Anyhow, if you are a forum user outside the UK, would you like to respond and tell other forum users where you are based? Also, if you are a member of IOSH, and perhaps also belong to an IOSH branch, some forum users may be interested to know how widely spread the membership of IOSH is nowadays.
Don't worry if English is not your first language. If you don't think you are fluent, just write the name of your city/town/area and/or just your country or region. Also, perhaps you could add what type of work you do, whether it is in occupational safety & health or something else.
If you do not wish to use your real name, just think of and use an invented name (a pseudonym) as many forum users prefer to do.

I think that's a good idea Graham. I wonder if the forum admin when considering the next upgrade, could add the facility for people to add a little more information on their 'profile' (in addition to a facility to use bold text rather than having to use capitals for emphasis - hint, hint.)

Real names would be a refreshing improvement from who knows who hiding behind sometimes rather silly pen names.
It would add a little credibility, don't you think?

Though there are many here who refuse to see the other point of view, considering it outrageous, heretic, disgusting, repugnant even, or just plain wrong, the frequent differences of opinion here display evidence of how many different approaches there can be to the same issue, how many solution to the same problems, how many different views and perceptions.
And that is just in the UK!
So add to that the core differences in approach that tend to vary from country to country and it will be interesting to read that "in so and so, we do it this way". In reality, a poll of individuals from that location may reveal not one unifying approach, idea, concept or belief, but many. Some of those will be variations on a theme and we might not recognise them as fundamentally dissimilar, others so far apart as to raise concerns. And if its different from our individual and possibly blinkered opinion or expectation is it any less right?
There are many ways to skin a cat, or so I've been told.

Don't really understand the fuss around pseudonyms. Just click on the posters pseudonym on the left and you get their real name and location.
I assume I am not the first to notice this!!!!!

I did try and use my real name when I set up the account. All I got was a message that said the name was in use. Not really fussed about pseudonyms.

Hi All,
Gerry McArdle, working in Hull in FMCG, moved into H&S over 8 years ago after working as lab manager in chemical industry but was made redundant, hence change of career. Have signed up to CMIOSH but never seem to find time to get started, any hints?
Nearest I ever got to heavy metal was working with mercury in my last role and that probably explains the move into H&S as well!

hi,
pete, mid 30's from the normally wet north east wales but suprisingly hot at 7am.
done 2 nebosh certs and considering diploma or some sort of degree for september that i can fit in while being a full time carer for the last 5 years for my alzheimers suffering 91 year old nan.

Hi everyone!
Maysaa here, Iraqi national born/bred/raised/working in the UAE, would love to say I am a fan of the weather but nope.. I am not.
Funnily enough I turned to the IOSH discussion forum perhaps my first week working in HS and have been a regular ever since.
I work as a senior HSE consultant, a proud member of the Middle East branch and the IOSH UAE country coordinator!

Work in Kirkby, in the Republic of Merseyside. Commute to work slightly quicker since i moved last week. Now 10-15 mins rather than 25-30 mins.

Errm, just to put a bit of a dampener on this love-in - Living under leaden skies with, yesterday, horizontal rain, about 12-13 degrees.

My name was surprisingly used up 'Joanne' so used my horses name!!
Coming live and direct from a farm in Essex where the sun is shining and I have no window to see out of. I worked/travelled with horses for many a year then moved in to logistics however, I am now currently in the animal feed and breeding sector.
IOSH forums are my sanctum when I need reassurance the world is not going mad and I do really know what I am talking about (some of the time).

Neil Blackadder, and yes I have heard all the jokes. Live in Argyll, work in offshore wind. Office is in Bremen but mostly on site in Eemshaven. More Q than HSE these days though. Bit of a long distance commuter.
