Hi all I have been asked to check if our price limit of £55 for safety footwear is reasonable. Can you let me know what limit, if any, your companies have set for footwear? Thank you :)

Presumably the employee is permitted to decline the footwear you would otherwise be providing? Your "limit" should be no more than the price you pay for that which you would otherwise provide.

Pretty good, we get a choice of around 5 pairs from a well known supplier, I believe they are valued up to £30. Generally I replace each year. You can buy your own if you wish, however they must meet the same standard as those that the company will supply but you do not get a £30 credit. Regards PaulR

My present employer has a limit of £32, which our operatives seem happy with but after saying that, they all choose there own footwear above this amount and dont mind paying the difference. My previous employer did a deal with a well known PPE supplier for safety footwear at £8 a pair!!!!

What are peoples thoughts about a price limit for safety shoes that have to be specially made for an employee with a foot problem? My view is there can not be a limit as it is not generic. Thoughts?

Our limit is about £45 after discount and then the employees pay the difference if they want something else. Specific jobs and people get dispensation for other tasks but these are on a merit basis. I think £55 is more than reasonable.

We say £60, but that's for EN345 S3 boots - if you only need (for example) SB or shoes with a toecap, then £55 is generous. Regarding kevkel's question - yes, if there's a specific acquirement (due to role or the individual concerned) then the budget option doesn't work - you must supply the PPE, and if it can't be obtained within the budget the company simply has to pay it all, in my view.

Thank you everyone! If someone had a specific requirement then we would supply the shoes/boots regardless of cost.

Our company specify a limit of £40, anything above this is at management discretion (particularly as kevkel says for specific requirements).

Traditionally I have always bought my own Safety Footwear as 9 x out of 10 the employers Footwear that they Provide is always of Poor Quality and will do Damage to your foot than anything else. A few years ago when working Offshore a well known Multi Discipline company supplied outstanding Safety footwear worth £100, now i believe they supply footwear in the Range of £20 a pair. A Sign of the Times I suppose.
