Hi all.
I am a newbie on here & I wondered if I could pick your brains about interview tips. I have an interview next week for a H&S Consultant position & I would appreciate any advice you guys may have on what to ask, what not to ask etc. I have been a safety officer with a small company for 10 years or so & this is my first venture into the world of consulting, which is quite different i'm sure. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi - I think the best thing you can do is sit down and write out all your strengths and experience. Look for skills you have that are transferable - not just technical knowledge. Many interviews are competency based these days so they will be asking for you to give examples of where you have done things. It is good to have a list of examples ready so that you can talk about your achievements and make it ;'real' for the interviewer. Be careful of saying 'we' versus 'I'. If you have worked as part of a team they will be looking to see what your contributions were - if you have worked on your own they will be interested on how you work with others!
Don't forget to find out more about the role and what they are expecting from you. It should be a two-way process.

Hi
Preparation is paramount if you are entering the daunting world of the interview process.
Read and re-read the job description and come up with practical examples of work you may have been involved with that covers the description.
Do your research into the company e.g. website, Linkedin, facebook, Google. (the companies dustbins ----perhaps that might be taking it a little too far)

Make it evident that you have researched the company and you feel you can bring something to the table. Sell yourself.
The internet is full of good advice on the interview process, use it.
Don’t go into the interview thinking you can wing it, they will know.

I applied for over 30 jobs last year got 8 interviews got to the final 2 in 3 of them and finally managed to get a job that I love.
So if you don’t get the job don’t give up, learn from the experience and come back stronger.

Good luck

Thanks so much for the tips guys! Just back home from the interview, I think it went pretty well. They seemed pleased with the answers I gave to their questions & with the questions I asked them. I tried to give as many examples of my experience as possible & I think they were impressed with the amount of times i referenced things I had seen on their website & about company history.

Now for the long wait until I hear something!
