Hi All
Looking for some advice I am at the last stage of my diploma Unit D and hopefully move up to GradIosh before the end of the year can anyone enlighten me how long it takes to achieve your Chartered Membership such as do you need to stay at graduate level for a certain time or can you just go for it and hopefully achieve this in a reasonable timescale

I think once you've passed you can be approve GradIOSH then start your IPD, no time period in GradIOSH is needed. It was the case for me anyway

Hey Derek,
I have just got Grad IOSH after passing the Diploma. 1: I set IOSH a copy of my final NEBOSH exam results as conformation 2: They deliberated and I got Grad IOSH. 3: Back in touch with IOSH to register for IPD £160.00 - kerching! 4: Once registered it takes about 24 hours to activate the online part…akin-but not quite like doing CPD interface. 5: Fill in all the IPD / SDP…phew! 6: You can then do it as quick as you want, months? Or take the full 2 yeasr to do it. If you take longer than 2 years you need to register and pay again. Personally, If I finish it this year I’ll be pleased as punch…
Hope this helps. Good luck!

James I feel your pain, I've just embarked on the same journey! Derek, you can start working on the IPD as soon as you get GradIOSH, personally I think the quicker we do it the better as it's quite intensive and I can see myself losing focus in the long run. Good luck to both Elisa

Elisa, I agree.
I looked at the criteria yesterday and started to thrash a plan of what I'm going to do and how I'll do it. You're right, the sooner it's done and dusted the better.
Good luck.

Thank you to those who have posted on this thread. Attaining CMIOSH has been the elephant in the room for me for the past year or so (I'm ashamed to admit!) but reading this thread has spurred me on to finally get my head down and start the road to CMIOSH. I am hoping to do it quite quickly with other committments allowing.
Good luck to everyone else starting on this long and winding road! :)

I have been on the road to CMIOSH for the past 3 years. I have realised that the only way to get it done is to set aside a whole day and just get on with it without any interruptions. You will need to have an idea on what you are going to use for your activities and your evidence, but once you know that its just a matter of getting it down on paper. Don't keep putting it off like I did or it will never get done. Hope to be finished the last 3 modules within the next 2 months - fingers crossed. Wish you all good luck

Try treating it like another qualification - be firm with yourselves, set out a plan and stick to it as far as possible. I guess it is one of those things where if you say to yourself 'I have two years to do this' you will end up taking 2 yrs; set your targets realistically given your own personal circumstances. Maybe if you have connections in a local branch see if there is someone there that is willing to help you through the process. There used to be a mentor scheme which I used to good effect - might be worth checking with membership if this is still up and running and then try and find someone in your area. HTH Stuart

Hi all, You may be glad to hear that the Mentor scheme mentioned earlier is still available and to be honest really underused! There are many mentors out there who are willing to advise on how to get CMIOSH and the amount of information which is on the IOSH web site will also help. Contact Membership and ask about a mentor to help you all going through IPD and you will be surprised that you can get loads of help via the Mentor programme. If you don't ask you will not get!!

I got CMOISH last year, after spending nearly everynight studying for the open assessment paper. I set myself one hr and one hr only each night over 12 months. This made it easier to discipline myslef, in the end i passed after my third and final attempt, so the pressure was on a bit!
Everyone learns in different ways but I think time is precious especially when having to devote it to studying when there are often more interesting things to do like watching TV!
In return, having CMIOSH has given me the confidence to challenge the way compliance in the company is done, partly becuase the 12 months of studying, actually I learnt something about health and safety legislation! also gives you a bit of cudos. That in turn, from my point of view is advancing my career forward, so well worth the effort towards CMIOSH

Just got CMIOSH!
Diploma 3 years ago, had a year's break, then did the portfolio. Interview at about 2.4 years (only the IPD portfolio has to be finished within 2 years). The portfolio is the hard part - well I made it that way with about 40 evidence pieces each .
What I did was to plan out each of the 7 criteria chosen in a spreadsheet and then cut and paste the boxes into the IPD online. A much neater way to administer it all. Also I learnt quickly that it was easier to complete each criteria separately, and submit EVERYTHING for evidence as a pdf ( I renamed each file E1, E2, E3 etc. A top tip is to ensure any part of the evidence the assessor might have to search for: eg Para 45 of the minutes at evidence no 43 is listed and highlighted in the .pdf. What I then did was to print the excel sheet and each evidence file and made a ring binder up so I knew exactly what was done. Then another tip is to ensure the reflective statement is just that. Ensure you think how this submission has changed your view on that criterion and how you will now approach similar tasks.
I guesstimate each criterion took me about 2 days to tidy the evidence, a day to write the spreadsheet and another to reflect and admin (Print etc.) . Therefore about 28 days (ish)
Good luck all. I know I enjoyed getting here, so you should too!
Hope this all helps someone else!
