Hi Guy's,
First time on Forum, have recently gained IGC Nebosh (March 2013).
Trying to get into the offshore industry, have all required certs, experience but only within a maritime security role. Was working very closely with the HSE officer on board various offshore instillations. Shadowed at times and gained as much experience and HSE knowledge as possible. Have been very active in applying for various O&G related HSE roles but to no avail.
Option 1
Contemplating weather to do my PTS (Personal Track Safety) for the rail network as a way of achieving my aim of securing a HSE position.
Option 2 Complete a few smaller type HSE courses working at height ,train the trainer etc etc to the value of the cost of the PTS course £500.
Any views would be gratefully received, thank you for your time and a big hi to all with in the organisation. Best Regards,
Ian

Ian.
Getting straight into (or out to) an offshore H/S role without previous hard and fast specific offshore experience is not easy, unless you either get mega lucky or know someone who carries weight in the industry. Have you considered putting health and safety on the back burner. Go offshore as a roughneck, then once you are in the business start waving your IGC around.
Breaking into the choo-choo's is just as hard without hard and fast experience. Save you money on that issue and you don't just jump onto a PTS course nowadays unless you have a sponsor like Mr Topemhat.
Crack on.
