Hi, going to ask the following query as a general desire for others perception and opinions. I am presently employed within the Oil & Gas industry as a HSE officer (onshore upstream) and over the last 2 days I have applied for 3 jobs:

1 - local regulator
2 - Aviation industry (carrier's safety engineering dept)
3 - Rail industry (strategic position)

These 3 positions are industries I have always looked at as possibly jobs that I could stay in for a very long time and gain fantastic experience and knowledge, I do not have any prior experience in any apart from friends and relatives working in rail & aviation and really cant pinpoint why I look upon these the way I do.

Just looking for others opinions on these industries and possibly their opinions of the industries where the wealth of working experience has catapulted their knowledge faster as a result of that industry.

I presume 'local regulator' means LA/HSE enforcement officer, but then again...

The problem with industries like railways, aviation, etc, is that they normally want people with industry experience. Hence it's difficult to jump from one industry to another. Even within an industry like railways there are many different disciplines and infrastructure.

I would have thought that Oil and Gas is a niche industry well worth staying in?
