I know this is not strictly a H&S issue, but in this case staff have turned to me for advice
We have an office above the shop in the high street. The tenants in the neighbouring flat, are suspected to be smoking illigal substances in prolonged bouts which with the hot weather with all the windows opening is leaving the flat and entering the office. This is affecting the staff to the point now where they have to shut the window. In this weather they are now suffering. This has been reported to the police but to no avail.
Not sure what to suggest. Is this a EHO issue? Any advice would be appreciated.

You could consider the provision of a 'chillout' room and order a few extra Pizzas for the office staff.
On a serious note, contact the Plod again, it is their job to investigate illegal activities as you describe. If you are not satisfied, try again and again until you are!

Ivor,
Contact your local MP or the best way to get a response from the Police is to phone the Divisional HQ, ask for the media liaison officer, advise them that the local nick isn't interested in dealing with suspected drug offences and ask if they are happy to deal with queries from the local media, in relation to their dereliction of duty.
It is truly amazing how many assets can be redeployed to tackle the problem.
Try it and watch how fast the problem is dealt with! Quiet time in the media and with the focus on potential police cuts, they don't need any negative press. Press would love this story.

Many thanks for the advice guys
Since the original email the police have turned up again but still seem to be short on advice. I have advised that they keep contacting them and if necessary to esculate it as Ciaran has suggested. I have also advised how to keep the office cooler (blinds closed, fan on) and more permanet solutions such as tinted windows and air con.
I'm sure they would love a chill out room!! Perhaps they could go next door :o)

Score, cheers!
Always comforting to know that if I fail my Dip, there's always comedy!
Right, back to my High Street (above shop) flat and back to work (after some snacks)!
