Hello Mid-life and welcome to the forum Those of use who have been following the forum regularly will know that this topic appears ever month or so and usually leads to a lot to-ing and for-ing and sometimes slightly bad tempers. If you type e-cigarettes into the search box you will get a flavour of what has been discussed. Broadly the forum divides into two groups; One group hate-e-cigarettes and think that they should be banned. They adopt a broadly precautionary approach and they point out that there is only limited knowledge about their physiological effects and what long term problems their use might cause. They are also concerned about the secondary “passive “effects. A few in this camp even argue that as they are being used at work and the smoke/vapour constitutes a hazardous substance they should be managed under COSHH and banned from the workplace. On the other hand the second set take a more laid back approach and argue as their is no specific legislation it is down to the employers’ own inclinations to do what they want with these devices but that there is no need for a blanket ban- I tend to subscribe to the second group.
