I apologise if this has been brought up before, but as the search function doesn't appear to be working I can't check! Does a stair lift installed in a private members club (for assisting disabled members and guests to access the first floor function room) come under LOLER'98? My understanding is that as the stair lift is for non-staff then it is not LOLER, but complying with LOLER will probably meet the required standards. My real concern is around periodic thorough examination of the unit, should it be at least every 6 months as LOLER requires all passenger lifts, or should it be something else? The club management say that they only have to have the unit examined every 12 months but my arguement is that as it is essentially a passenger lift then it should be every 6 months. Your input and advice will be greatly received

This is a passenger lift, though technically rather simpler than a shaft housed type. I would get 6 monthly servicing, and also make sure that evetrybody knows how the manual release works (bit of a bugbear of mine),

A stairlift in a care home comes under LOLER and requires 6 monthly inspections and that is for non-staff. I guess your situation would be similar. I do not think the fact that it is a private club matters, it is still a workplace and H&S laws apply. Have a look at the following. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/hsis4.pdf
