Good Afternoon,
My company are adamant they want to use easi dec to fit solar panels for the places we cannot get scaffolding (small Isles of Scotland).
I do not feel comfortable using this system due to hearing bad reports.
So far I have found this:
http://webcommunities.hs...howthread?threadid=71598
and also seen that the company has been prosecuted but not sure on details.
So two questions:
1. Any details on the prosecution ?
2. Is there any further evidence that I can use to stop the system being put in place ?
Many Thanks

Outfit submitted guilty plea - fined £2000 with £3000 costs.
Hope this helps.

There's no absolute gaurantee that the story in that web communities forum is factual. Prosecution under s.2 of the Act cannot relate to the safety of the manufactured product.
No doubt there are ways to abuse or incorrectly assemble these systems (easi-dec being one of several) but then the same is equally true of tube and fitting or system scaffold.

The prosecution and conviction of Easi-dec under S2 (1)HASWA is indeed correct.
I have no idea what the IOSH web forum on subject matter contains.

The HSE feature easi dec in their roofwork guidance.
Having reviewed the use of easidec several years ago, I believe that the enforcement related to works in the easi dec storage yard and not the actual system in use.
My reviews on easi dec found the 2 main issues to be:
1. it makes no provision for protecting the gable end of a building (this has now been addressed with an additional system)
2. manual handling issues with the weight of the equipment.
Following Risk assessment, training and some solutions to the above issues we have been using it successfully for several years with several HSE visits finiding no problem.
