- Flashback Arrestor: A device installed on all oxy-acetylene set up both at the side of the torch and regulator, that prevents the flame to travel through the hose and into the cylinder
- Flashback is the result of mixture of fuel gas and oxygen burning within the hose, flame travels and burns its way towards the gas source at great speed, can result in force of explosion in either cylinder
- Flashback arrestors should only be used with the gas they are labeled for and the pressure they are designed for
- Common reasons for flashback: incorrect purging of hose/torch prior to use, incorrect gas pressure, incorrect nozzle, damaged torch valves, gas passages blocked within the torch, kinked or trapped hose
- Three different pieces of equipment are used on most cylinders: Regulators, CGA fittings and Pressure Relief Device
Regulator – control the speed at which a gas comes out of the cylinder.
CGA Fittings – it connects directly to the cylinder valve and allows the gas to leave the cylinder.
Pressure Relief Device (PRD) – these devices are designed to prevent ruptures or violent pressure releases that could occur if cylinders are exposed to extreme heat.

Thank you Mohammed. So nice to come back to the forum after a long break and find a simple non-contentious answer being given to a question. There is hope!
