Hi all,
Hope someone can give me some advice. I`ve recently started in an offshore position covering oil/gas/windfarms/renewable energy. I currently hold the National General Certificate and I`m not sure what to go for next, I`ve considered the International Certificate, but don`t know what extra benefit it will provide over the National I already have, the oil & gas certificate is an option, but the work I`m involved with covers commissioning & decommissioning of installations not the actual production side of things, and finally the construction certificate has been suggested due to the nature of the work surrounding windfarm installations.
Any suggestions/advice will be most welcome.

Hi Phil,
I,m in the same industry - Working offshore in both Oil & Gas and more recently the windfarm sector. I hold the NGC and after looking around for my next qualification I have decided that the NVQ 5 Diploma is the way to go forward. Alot of the roles abroad are asking for diploma level qualifcations and having spoken with various HSE managers in this industry alot of them see the NVQ as a better way forward as it proves your competence not just your knowledge - Alot of the work offshore is very specific and about how you deal with people - often multi-national crews too.
The NVQ is also a good way to get to CMIOSH.

sparky4434 and philmed99x, how did you get your present jobs?
Are they as safety officers?
What other skills or qualifications have you got?

I ask this, because I too would like to get into renewable energy wind farms and the like, I'm only asking in generalities not specifics - unless your're willing.
