I would greatly appreciate some perspective on a subject our insurance company has decided needs addressing.

We have a FLT charging station in our main warehouse at the end of a aisle, we do not store any products against the wall and have hatched out approx. 1 metre in front and two metres width from the unit to prevent items being left there. The FLT stands in the aisle while charging at least two metres away from the unit. The Risk Assessments state that they should only be charges with the bonnet/boot off to prevent the build up of fumes and the mains kill switch is checked weekly.

Before people comment yes it isn't ideal at all but we do not have the facility to locate them anywhere else at the moment. They were installed over 10 years ago and with no consultations so I am making the best of a bad job.

The insurance report states that the charging station should have at least a two metre 360 space around the base unit stating legislation change. I have searched HSG6 with no reference to space around the unit and I am just about to start HSG76 but could anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you

Ask them where they are quoting this 'Legislation Change' from!?

The only reference I know is in this: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg139.pdf

Paragraph 36 mentions distance. Ask the company who looks after your batteries (servicing etc) they should know.
