What is the current advice on these tests as we are a small electrical company and use mainly fp3 masks when chasing out/ sweeping up working in lofts but we have just been to a new site to start and they have asked for our test certs for face fit. ?

See the ACoP to the COSHH Regulations (available from HSE website).

The current advice is; if you provide RPE it must FIT the user! If it doesn't then why bother providing it in the first place? How do you know if it fits? Test it.

As I understand the HSE ACOP etc you can do "qualitative" tests for FFP3. Also, if they are just "comfort" masks (?) you don't need to to face fit testing.

Unless you are an HSE inspector, when apparently, according to the one who visited our site, it is OK to use a disposable mask with a beard as long as you use some vaseline to help seal it. ( Only acceptable / applicable for that particular inspector I strongly suspect)

We use the 3M face fit testing kit that we purchased through Arco. It is fairly easy to do, but the Acop will stress that the tester is competent. You can download the 3M report card that the tester can fill in after the test to state a pass or a fai. I know there are company's out there that will provide this service, but at a cost.
