Hi All
I am trying to find out if we need to hold material safety data sheets for chemicals we may supply through our factory shop.
We have data sheets for all other chemicals on site and until we had a spillage had not considered what we sell, are the regulations different from a shop to a factory shop?
Any advice or comment greatly received and for those that had not considered this lets see what comes of it.

You confuse COSHH with CHIP. You have duties under CHIP.

As Ron rightly said we are talking data sheets which are via CHIP and not COSHH and ask the question 'when I buy products from shops on the high street do I get a CHIP sheet'? The answer is 'no' so act accordingly as this is a shop selling its products as a shop for none industrial use

There are a number of things I would take into account for mopping up spillages - such as nature of the substances, likely amounts that might be spilled, the local environment (natural ventilation, drains etc).
You might need a COSHH assessment for the mopping up, if the chemicals are hazardous. That may then lead onto training for staff in the use of PPE, installing eyewash stations etc.
As the others have said, CHIPS (I thought we still had CHIPS - updated to cover CLP...?) and CLP basically says you need to provide information for downstream users and I might be wrong, but I think REACH has "exposure scenarios" in it, for passing information up and downstream...
Open to correction on any points made though!
