Just a bit of advice really. I am competent and able to carry out basic workplace assessments. The ones that involve looking at how people are sat, desk space, keyboard screen etc. You know the general issues.
I am being asked to carry out risk assessments on people who have highlighted possible medical conditions, possibly from work possibly not. I feel that this needs a more occupational health, a more medical detailed assessment. This I feel is out of my remit.
What are the opinions of people?
Many Thanks
Clegg

I have completed a basic DSE assessor’s course and feel the same. I offer the basic advice on chair set up, desk organisation etc. I have issued a few document holders (fab horizontal ones from Posturite!) and I say to people give it a week and let me know. I have agreed with the powers that be here that if that doesn’t solve someone’s issues then we call in a "professional" and it is a more complex field than I feel prepared for. So far we have had to call in someone for a guy who is very tall so the standard equipment doesn’t fit someone with a pre-existing back issue and someone with pre-existing carpel tunnel problems.

Whislt I can undertake the basic DSE Assessment, I involve our Occupational Health service provider for those who have underlying medical issues
However for the users who do not find the standard provision comfiortable, you can raise the desk height --even for non-adjustable desks by placing riser blocks etc--should be OK unless the users also has other underlying health related issues.

As Jay mentions use your OH provider - if you have one, or the individuals GP (if they are helpful).
I have some experience of working with various medical conditions, if you have a direct question feel free to Inbox me.
