What would be required for a maintenance worker to carry out WAH, plant repairs, M&E repairs if the operative is aged 65+? would this individual require a specific RA for his duties similar to a young person in construction?

What would be the difference in risk assessments between a 64 year old employee and a 66 year old employee? Be careful with this as the Equality Act 2010 abolished "compulsory retirement age".

There is no corresponding requirement for older employees. Once we are 18 then we are adult until the day we are no longer. You deal with individual issues such as personal health as an individual matter and usually as an HR matter rather than OSH.

Please refer to the Health & Safety Executive Guidance titled, "Health and safety for older workers" at:- http://www.hse.gov.uk/vu...orkers/older-workers.htm

Do not write off older workers just because of age recently on a confined spaces job that I was involved in the oldest people were the only ones who had the stamina etc. to complete all the things necessary in the time given

All our employees over 18years have same risk assessments unless they have a reason that we owe them an extra duty of care e.g. pregnant, have a disability, medical condition (temp or permanent) etc. This applies to any age. Employees are obliged to advise their line manager if there is some reason why they cannot follow the usual risk assessment - control measures etc - and an extra duty of care risk assessment is then developed with the person. We use same form for work experience children Lilian
