Elevation and anyone else trying to break in.

It's slowly changing, but too many rail operators define minimum previous experience of this sector, not recognising that experience from other industries can offer transferable skills and understanding and a fresh pair of eyes that does not automatically accept custom and practice.

When I joined HSE it was a matter of policy that you were not allowed to inspect the sector in which you had previously worked until your preconceptions as to standards had been thoroughly purged. It's unfortunate that both HSE and ORR have forgotten this wise policy.
