I obtained my General Certificate in 2000. Due to various circumstances I have not been able to put it to use in obtaining a H&S position.

Now due to my precarious employment position I find myself looking for a new job and thought I would try to gain work in H&S. I know that with a Gen Cert I will have an uphill struggle already.

However, my question is a qualification obtained 13 years ago still be recognised as valid, or will I have to do a more up to date course.

Thanks

Mike

Yes Mike it is. Would not hurt to refresh yourself but the qualification is valid.

I agree with DP certificate still valid, why don't you do your construction cert and or fire cert to run along side as this will refresh you and also give you a second qualification
good luck

There would be NO NEED to say on your CV which your you obtained the NEBOSH cert...............! Wink. The syllabus has changed but not by a huge amount in content (how could it?).

If you do go for the construction certificate, then you need to re-do NGC1 anyways, as it was over 5 years ago. After that NGC2 and NCC2 are so closely related that the phrase "ding, dang do" fits.

Sorry. I mean NCC1, not NCC2.

If applying for a role by CV then generally the year you obtained the NGC is not stated but a recruiter would look for evidence of ongoing development and using your NGC in your work.

But many organisations insist on filling in an online form that requires one to state the date one obtained their qualifications.

Therefore I would recommend that you look at updating your H&S qualification and NCC or FCC are both good suggestions.
