Anybody reccomend a good HAVs measuring tool, or should i be outsourcing this requirement?

I would find a suitable supplier who can come in and assess what is required specifically for the equipment you use.

If you look in many of the SHE Magazines that you subscribe to through IOSH, they have an ad in there for HAV Meters. they just attach to a Tool and measure the output of vibration and alert when the person is neae maximum usage. This cmes with a personal card so once maxed out the meter will sound.

Using the manufacturers data is ok when the tools are new - what happens when the tools are used and become worn; you need to bear in mind that vibration will increase over time as the wear increases. The HSE havs tool is a good tool to calculate exposure if you have accurate readings; we are purchasing a hav's measuring tool/device so that we can plot use and wear in order to decide on exposure levels and maintenance/replacement schedules.

remember its a personal dose we are evaluating not the vibtarions given off by a piece of kit
There is excellent kit now available inclusive of X-Y gloves that sends wireless signals to a computer where the program does all the maths etc. so look at obtaining such kit and please note again that its personal doses we are looking at not the vibration that a piece of kit gives off as both are different and kit acts differently when ticking over etc. as against under load
noting the possible cost of a claim I would not undertake any actions in this area e.g. appraisal; unless you are v-good re the subject
