How often should noise at work assessments be performed? Assuming that there has been no changes to the area such as new pieces of kit introduced or any new structures

The last one we had done in our manufacturing plant was two years ago, I've heard mixed messages about the frequency they should be performed

doe anyone know whats legally required?

We carry out IH monitoring and audio testing of employees every year are we in compliance?

As a baseline you would expect at least 3 years. However, this should be done proportionate to the risk at the site and therefore may be more frequently. Effectively, how often you carry out a noise at work assessment is based on your risk assessment.

The defining factors will be:

Environment i.e. structure etc, which you say remains unchanged

Plant - though it remains unchanged as it gets older it may make more noise

People - is the workforce fairly static OR is there a high turn around

Hope that helps

The process and requirement for REVIEW applies as it does to any other type of risk assessment.
The late lamented L21 provides excellent guidance. The employer has scope to determine his own schedule of review.

Thanks Chaps.

I've just bought an intergrated sound meter class2 it can do everything except peak levels, I'm not sure its the correct kit for a full noise assessment but it is calibrated to a traceable standard and will hopefully be able to add weight to my risk assessments
